Medicine cabinet for your child: what to keep at home and how to pay less for it
Most parents put a child's medicine cabinet together bit by bit: a syrup bought late one evening, plasters from the supermarket, a thermometer picked up on the way home. A short checklist and one planned order are calmer, and usually cheaper.
What a child's medicine cabinet should contain
- A fever and pain reliever suited to your child's age and weight (paracetamol or ibuprofen, as a syrup or suppositories)
- A working thermometer
- Saline in single-dose vials and a nasal aspirator
- Oral rehydration salts
- An antiseptic, gauze and child-size plasters
- A cream for nappy rash or minor skin irritation
- Vitamin D, if your doctor recommends it
Doses for children depend on weight, not only on age. Ask your pharmacist or doctor, read the leaflet, and use the measuring spoon or syringe that comes with the product.

- Store medicines out of children's reach and sight
- Keep them in the original packaging, with the leaflet
- Check expiry dates twice a year
- Don't give a child a medicine meant for adults unless the leaflet allows it
Why buy it as one basket
A complete cabinet means several products bought at once. The same products can cost different amounts at different online pharmacies, and each pharmacy charges for delivery in its own way. When you add everything to your basket, the comparison shows the online pharmacy where the whole basket costs least, delivery included, with prices checked at the moment you compare.
Before you order, the free basket check flags the same active substance in two products. That helps when, for example, a cold remedy and a fever syrup both contain paracetamol.
How much will you save?
That depends on your basket: which products are in it, how many packs you buy and what delivery costs. We don't promise averages. The comparison shows the exact total for your basket before you buy.
The comparison is free and unlimited. If you buy regularly, Premium suggests cheaper substitutes for the products in your basket, lets you know when your basket is cheaper than usual and reminds you before you run out.
